Chic, comfortable, and practical outfits for spring in the city.
If there’s one thing about New York City... it’s that your outfits need to work hard. Between walking miles every day, unpredictable weather, coffee runs, sightseeing, and trying to still look cute in every photo… NYC packing takes strategy.
For my recent trip to New York, I focused on outfits that were equal parts comfortable, elevated, and photo-friendly. Aka pieces that layered well, worked for long walking days, and still fit the aesthetic of the city.
Below I’m sharing all of my NYC outfits from the trip with links to shop each look via LTK/Amazon if you want to recreate them for your own city getaway ✨

Outfit 1: Neutral Coffee Run Chic
Perfect for: Travel day, coffee shops, casual exploring
My go-to NYC formula is always a neutral base with elevated basics. This outfit was one of my favorites because it felt effortless but still put together.
Cream knit sweater
Cropped beige utility jacket
Wide leg cuffed jeans
Pink sneakers
Gold jewelry stack
Style Tip: A neutral jacket like this is the MVP of any NYC trip—it matched almost every outfit I packed.

Outfit 2: Colorful Layered Spring Day Look
Perfect for: Chilly spring mornings, bridge walks, sightseeing
NYC spring weather can be deceiving—sunny but freezing in the shade. This colorful scarf moment was not only practical but made the outfit so much more fun for photos.
Pink cardigan
Beige trench coat
Rainbow oversized scarf
Headband
Wide leg jeans
Tan booties
Why I Loved It:Adding one colorful accessory instantly made this feel more “fashion girl in NYC” while still being super wearable.

Outfit 3: Elevated Casual with a Pop of Color
Perfect for: Museum days, shopping, brunch
This was my go-to for a full day of exploring when I wanted to be comfortable but still feel put together. The neutral jacket and denim kept it classic, while the green sweater and pink Yankees hat added the perfect playful pop of color.
Bonus: the hat was a lifesaver on a day when I didn’t want to do my hair but still wanted the outfit to feel intentional.
Green sweater
Cropped beige utility jacket
Wide leg denim
Pink Yankees hat
Structured black handbag
Pink sneakers
It’s comfortable, practical, and still gives that effortless “off-duty in NYC” vibe.

Outfit 4: Feminine + Practical City Dinner Look
Perfect for: Dinner, date night, rooftop drinks
I wanted one outfit that felt a little dressier while still practical for the city, and this was it.
Satin midi dress
Trench coat
Sneakers (yes, still sneakers)
Black shoulder bag
Hot Take:Sneakers with dresses in NYC is elite. No one is judging your practical footwear here.

Outfit 5: Matching PJ Moment for the Hotel
Because aesthetically pleasing travel content requires cute pajamas
Not technically an exploring outfit, but this pink striped pajama set deserved a moment because it made the hotel content SO cute.

My NYC Packing Tips for Outfits
1. Bring Layers
Even in spring, mornings and evenings can be cold while afternoons get warm.
2. Prioritize Comfortable Shoes
You will walk more than you think. Cute sneakers > painful boots every time.
3. Stick to a Color Palette
Packing neutrals with a few fun pops of color made mixing/matching outfits super easy.
4. Bring One Statement Accessory
A colorful scarf, headband, or bold bag instantly elevates basic outfits for photos.
